Sheffield Trotters 8 - 12 Manchester

With its squad travelling from the length and breadth of the North, Man 1's coach for the day, Cathy, was envisaging one of the first team's famous 'arrive on court with 30 seconds to spare and no time for a warm up' debacles! Oh how wrong she was, with the lady herself arriving last out of all but still with 15 minutes to spare before warm up time; things were looking up!

Renegades vs. Bengals Match Report

Last Updated on Tuesday, 24 November 2009 22:12

Ah, Renegades vs. Bengals, a classic fixture. In our pre-match talk we emphasised the need to go into this game with respect for this new Renegades team. Their previous results showed that they could peg back some of the strongest teams in the league and fight hard. With Bengals still a man-tiger down, Alastair Lyons stepped up from Renegades. The game started well for Renegades with an early couple of goals. On the Bengals side Helen S. got us on the score sheet then…disaster struck after only 10 minutes!

Man Uni 2 vs. Bengals Match Report

Last Updated on Wednesday, 11 November 2009 23:10

Our third student team in as many weeks.  Bengals have experienced the Lions roar, the Wasps sting and now "Man Uni 2".  What kind of name is that?! I mean, if they are trying to strike fear into us with a name like that then they are wasting their time!  And if team names are heading in that direction we might as well start calling ourselves something boring like "Man City 3"... Hang on... that's what we were calling ourselves until 2008.  Moving on to the match report...

Bengals vs. Wasps Match Report

Another student team, this time the buzzzzy Man Uni Wasps and they sure did buzz all over the court marking Bengals very tightly.  Bengals had to work hard to grind out a result this week.  Helen Powell got the team off the mark and followed this up with two more goals later in the game.  In the other division Karl calmly slotted home a penalty plus another goal from open play.  Desperate to grab that top-of-the-league spot, Bengals thought their chance had slipped when Wasps showed their sting in their tail, by grabbing a goal in the dying minutes of the match.  Hats off to them, they put up a tough fight, but it was not enough.  Final result Bengals 5: Wasps 1.

Bengals vs. Lions Match Report

Not only was it important to get the season off to a good start, but it was also important to decide once and for all, "Who really is the king of the jungle, Bengals or Lions?".  The answer...Man City Bengal tigers!  The game got off to an excellent start with Bengals being 9:1 up by the end of the first half.  Tired legs and spirited play by the Lions kept the second half down to another 4 for Bengals and 1 more for Lions given Bengals a 13:2 winning start to the season.  For many of the Lions it was their first ever korfball game, but if there is one thing we know about these student teams is that they learn fast and we can be sure they will come back at Bengals hard in the return leg.

Renegades vs Warriors 3 Report

Last Sunday saw the Renegades take on Warriors 3 at Manchester Health Academy in Wythenshawe.

After some excellent defending from both sides, the teams started opening up the goal scoring in the second half with a 6-3 defeat for the Renegades at the final whistle.

Scorers on the day were Chris (2) and Dave (1) - well done Dave on a great start to the season.  Special thanks go to Sally for her sterling performance on the day and Cathy & Cat for their invaluable contribution to the team.

Report on Lancaster tournament

Last Saturday saw 6 of our newest members and a few helping hands head up to Lancaster for a pre-season beginners tournament. The early morning start not withstanding (7.30am on a Saturday!) the day proved to be a great success with the team coming 4th out of the 12 teams there on the day.

Report on Leeds quadrangle tournament

Last Updated on Tuesday, 06 October 2009 08:36

A few hiccups on the journey across to Leeds with only Sue managing not to head the wrong way down the M1 – a trip to Wakefield wasn’t  on the “to do” list for the day! The 5-team tournament produced mixed results for the Manchester squad and whilst the Johnsons sipped cocktails by the pool in Turkey those left behind pulled off a respectable third place finish.

Report on Manchester quadrangle tournament

Last Updated on Tuesday, 06 October 2009 08:35

The day didn’t get off to a flying start (those responsible for the great post-gate scandal of 2009 are not ready to laugh yet) but by 3pm the Bengals flag was flying high over the Velodrome in what was good preparation for the season ahead. It was great to see some old faces (don’t be offended, Helen) and some new faces turn out to get everyone back in the swing in time for the new season.
