Bengals vs. Lancaster Match report

Attention: open in a new window. Print

Lancaster were on an unbroken winning run in the season until they met Warriors last week. In previous seasons the Bengals vs. Lancaster fixture had seen very close results. Our team were warned to expect nothing less than a tough game. Things got off to a slightly unfortunate start for Bengals with Helen P., who after being distracted by a Lancastrian jumping over the half-way line to intercept a pass, taking the ball right between the eyes – THWACK! Our roving MKC reporter interviewed Helen after the match and she is quoted as saying that “it was bloody painful!”. But Helen P. wiped the blood away and just got on with the game. Nice one Helen!

Bengals took control of the game bagging a 3:1 lead early in the first half. Things were going well when… CRUNCH! Oh no, another tiger down nursing an injured paw, but this time it was Captain Benstead on the deck. Our courageous Captain limped off convinced that he just needed 5 minutes to work his paw back into place. And sure enough, Captain Benstead kept his word and rejoined the game. Half time saw Bengals with a comfortable lead.

The second half saw yet more stoppages… SPLAT! Helen P. again, but this time with her contact lens squished out of place. As everyone knows, a tiger’s eyes are one of their greatest assets, particularly Helen who’s tiger eyes saw her bag 2 goals during the match. Hats off to Lancaster for giving Helen a minute to squish her eyeball back into place.

After some smart substitutions, Lancaster started to fight back, but Bengals kept pushing the odd goal in too. Shortly after a sensational hurl-and-hope last minute goal from Lancaster, the end of game whistle blew. Final score – Bengals 6: Lancaster 3. Well done Bengals (particularly Craig making his Bengals debut) and many thanks to Jenny W. and Leanne for filling in for injured Helen S. and jet-lagged Diana and also to Dave A. for his pitch side coaching.
