Looking at the squad at the start of the season we felt Bengals stood a strong chance of competing for a good league position with a blend of experience and new talent.  In the pre-Christmas half of the season Bengals pulled in 9 points from a possible 12 with fantastic victories against both Lancaster and Warriors.  The post Christmas games were always going to be tough, but Bengals still picked up valuable points against some tough teams including a well deserved draw against a spritely Man Uni 2 side. Despite being hit by the traditional Bengals injury crisis, the team held on to claim 4th place in the league.  This was a fantastic team performance and an improvement over 2009’s 5th place and 2008’s 6th place finishes.

A big thanks to the whole core Bengals team and to all the guest players who helped us through our injury woes.  A special thanks to the many Renegades players who stepped in on so many occasions that by the end of the season we had morphed to become a hybrid Benegades team.

A tough match was expected for what was to be the last game of the season.  With three Bengals team players still out with injury, the hunt would be on again for players to fill the gaps left by the brave fallen comrades.  Then on the Thursday before the match, Warriors sent an email to the team alerting Bengals that Warriors would unfortunately have to cancel the fixture as they were unable to field a fair team (Mother's Day commitments were cited as a reason!).  Clearly beyond that tough Warriors exterior lies a bunch of players who love their mummies too much to forgo them for a game of korfball.

With injuries still taking their toll, Bengals completed their metamorphosis into Benegades with the assimilation of four Renegades players for the long trip to Lancaster.  This time we welcomed debuts from Karen, Yvonne, Jess and Chris Cantor.  Renegades even loaned us the one-man rent-a-crowd Graham to cheer from the side-lines.

With players of ranging experience and not having played together before, we were expecting a tough game adjusting to each other's styles.  However, our Renegade guests performed magnificently and we all quickly found our game roles and used them to good effect.  Lancaster had put out a strong squad for their last game before they all disbanded and left their final year at University.  They had some big lads out on the court (some a little grumpy!), and tall lasses.  However, Benegades did a fine job in holding them back, though we struggled to get any goals in the first half.

Having last played Man City 2 only a month before, Bengals knew they were in for a tough match.  Injury problems within the squad gave opportunities to members of Renegades to step up and so Bengals welcomed Sally, Dave and Lucie to the team.

The match started with both teams defending well and keeping the scores at zero.  It was Bengals who broke the deadlock with nicely worked goal.  Man City 2 responded with a couple of quick goals to just before the half-time break.  The half-time team talk was up beat as the team was aware it was putting in a good performance to hold back one of the strongest teams in the league.

The last encounter with Renegades served up much frustration for Bengals with injury reducing their team to 7 within the early stages of play.  This time Bengals were at full strength and determined to put in a strong performance.  Filling in for the injured Helen S. and Karl were Steve and wannabe Bengal Leanne.  The team mascot (a not so fierce stuffed tiger toy) watched on from the sidelines as the game began. Within 5 minutes Bengals claimed the first goal of the game and looked in control.  With plenty of chances put up in the air the goals started to come.  Renegades had certainly gained some experience since the last encounter and danger man Dave's tenacious approach led to a long range Renegades goal, but the Bengals own combined experience was too much to them.  At half-time the score was 5:1 to the Bengals.
